What is system?
System is a set of
elements or components. It has inputs, processing , outputs and feedback.
Information system
Definition: Information
system is a application of computer based information technology used to
facilitate planning.
Roles of CBIS:

advantage.
Support Business decision
making.
Support business
operations and processes.
Types of IS

Transaction Processing System
(TPS)
TPS is the backbone of an organization’s
information systems.
The
activities associated with transaction processing, which include:

Recording
a business activity, such as a student’s registration, a customer’s order, an
employee’s timecard.

Confirming
an action or triggering a response, such as printing a student’s
schedule, sending a thank-you note to a customer, generating an employee’s pay check or
issuing a receipt to a client.
·
Maintaining
data, which involves adding new data, changing existing data, or removing unwanted data.
Management Information
System
is an integrated collection of
people, procedures, databases and devices that provides managers and decision
makers with information to help achieve organizational goals.
Functions of MIS
Help
Organization achieve goals.
Provide
right info to the right people at the right time and format.
Decision
Support System
is an information system designed to help users reach a decision when a
decision-making situation arises.
Decision support systems help provide information to support such
decisions.
Executive
Support System
It is analyse the Business environment in which the organization
operates, to identify long-term trends, and to plan appropriate courses of
action.
It is designed to support higher level of DM in an organization.
Expert System
Expert systems are part of a general category of computer applications
known as artificial intelligence.
It gives computer the ability to make suggestions and act like an expert
in particular field.
It can be used by both management and non
management personnel.
Information
System Development
This is a conceptual model used
in Project Management that describes the stages involved in an information
system development project.
Information system development methodologies:
is a collection of procedures, techniques, tools
and documentation aids which will help the systems developers in their efforts
to implement a new information system.
